This is a beautiful device, especially when you look at the packaged alternatives for the marine marketplace. A petite 5-cm square, it contains the sensitive SCP1000 barometric pressure sensor, TEMT6000 ambient light sensor, SHT15 humidity sensor, and three internal temperature sensors to average. Serial output is an ASCII string at 9600bps, generated once per second in either verbose or comma-delimited mode, making it easy to build a user interface or slurp the values into a database:
Humidity=58.36 %
SHT Temperature=065.77 F
SCP Temperature=019.0 C
SCP Temperature=066.28 F
Pressure=101073 Pa
Light=963
Batt=0
Count=000140
Or the terse:
#54.89,065.82,019.0,066.28,101151,989,0,000276$
There is a switch on the board for 'RF' if you don't want to run it via USB. This can be powered from a large solar cell and data can be transmitted via the drop-in BlueSMiRF wireless modem for Bluetooth access (both available by special order; please inquire if you want the wireless option).
Features:
- Powered over USB or externally
- Absolute barometric pressure accurate within +/-150 Pascal
- Relative humidity accurate within +/-2%
- Temperature accurate within +/-0.3 degrees C
- Ambient light sensor (analog level)
- Serial output 9600bps 8-N-1
- Measurement rate of 1Hz
- Sensors are isolated from all potential heat sources
- Firmware allows for temperature compensation
We are using one of these to collect environmental data on the research vessel
Nomadness, which is time & location stamped and inserted into the "Datawake" server. I have never seen so much bang for the buck in this class of sensors.
